2007-2008 Work Plans
The WSCA Board has identified four areas of focus. Our two year focus should be in the following four areas:
- “One Vision, One Voice”-connecting school counselors with each other, to strengthen our vision for student learning and growth in Wisconsin.
- To focus a strong voice in the direction of our state legislators.
- To ensure key stakeholders not only see and hear our vision and voice for school counseling, but understand the school counseling profession.
- To capitalize on the use of technology as a tool to communicate our vision to professional school counselors as well as key stakeholders.
2007-2008 Work goals
The WSCA Board has identified four goals to address the areas of focus. The goals are as follows:
- To promote professional development of school counselors and graduate students in training.
A. How the goal is addressed
Annually completed:
- Hold the 2008 WSCA annual conference. (Conference Committee)
- Hold WSCA graduate classes at the WSCA annual conference. (Conference Committee)
- Hold the 2008-2009 WSCA LDI. (President)
- Hold the 2008 Summer Leadership Academy. (Education/Professional Development)
- Maintain website. (Technology Committee)
- Support the training related to the new Wisconsin Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs.
- Continue to publish the Counselink on a quarterly schedule. (Publications)
- Provide free WSCA membership to first year school counseling graduate students. (Membership)
- Maintain the SPARC-W process for 2008 submissions (Education/Professional Development)
6 month:
1. Create and collect resources for practicing school counselors
2. WSCA conference sectional on how to use the new website (Technology)
3. Dedicated section of website for the VP’s. (Technology and VP/VP Elects)
1 year:
1. Develop a message board for WSCA members on the website (Technology)
2. Develop a resource page for WSCA members on the website (PR/Advocacy)
3. Provide on-line membership option (Technology & Membership)
4. Educate non-members about the web site and the wealth of resources available with membership. (PR/Advocacy)
2+ year:
1. Promote ASCA conference for WSCA members
- To promote partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders and educational professionals to benefit school counselors and students.
A. How the goal is addressed
Annually completed:
- Continue to send a WSCA representative to WAPSO meetings. (President and Past-President)
- Maintain a liaison relationship with DPI school counseling consultant.
- Maintain partnership with WEAC.
- Provide scholarships to high school students for post-secondary education. (Scholarship/Recognition Comm.)
- Continue to work with DPI toward the resolution and/or completion of the Pupil Services Role Delineation Project. (President and Past-President)
6 month:
1. Publications to all district superintendents (Publications)
1 year:
1. Lead sectionals at other professional conferences (PR/Advocacy)
2. Promote website with key stakeholders
3. Friend of Counseling Award (Scholarship & Awards)
2+ year:
1. Offer web site sections for parents, legislators, administrators, etc.
- To give direction to issues of concern to school counselors and promote and advocate for the profession of school counseling.

Annually completed:
- Continue to recognize outstanding school counselor service at the WSCA annual conference. (Scholarship and Awards Committee)
- Provide the award winning SPARC-W’s to district administrators, and state legislators (Education/Professional Development & Legislation)
3. Maintain a high-quality web site (Technology)
4. Provide scholarships for graduate students in school counseling programs (Scholarship/Recognition Comm.)
6 month:
1. Lead sectionals at other professional conferences
2. Develop promotional materials for WSCA members to use (PR/Advocacy)
3. Link committee work to website (PR/Advocacy)
1 year:
1. Action alerts for members via e-mail
2. Put all publications on the members section of the web site in PDF format (Publications)
3. Archive publications on the web site (Publications)
2+ years:
- To promote legislative agendas on a state and federal level that positively impact school counselors in Wisconsin.
A. How the goal is addressed
Annually completed:
- Attend the ASCA APPI Legislative Workshop in Washington, D.C. in Spring.
6 month:
1. Provide award winning SPARC-W’s to state legislators (Legislation))
2. Legislative updates in every publication (Legislation)
3. Survey other state school counselor associations about legislative initiatives (Legislation)
1 year:
1. Day on the Hill (Legislation)
2+ year:
1. Investigate the use of a lobbyist
- To promote the practice of on-going research and evaluation of the school counseling profession in Wisconsin and the WSCA organization.
A. How the goal is addressed
Annually completed:
1. Offer a research grant for schools interested in conducting research within their program.
6 month:
1. Provide opportunity for school counselors in Wisconsin to participate in an Outcome Study related to the impact of Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. (Research committee)
2. Collect and analyze data from the outcome study. (Research committee)
1 year:
1. Prepare a document sharing the results of the outcome study for Wisconsin (Research committee)
2. WSCA board reflects on the results of the outcome study to search for potential diretion for future goals. (VP & VP Elects)
